Swiss devastated as Qatar clinches first World Cup point

Switzerland will wonder how they let this one slip. Breel Embolo's penalty on 17 minutes had them in front, and for most of the afternoon a comfortable win looked the likeliest outcome against a Qatar side short on attacking ideas.
Instead the game turned in the cruelest way. Deep into stoppage time, Swiss defender Miro Muheim turned the ball into his own net, and Qatar had a 1-1 draw and the first World Cup point in their history.
Qatar created little and will not mind a bit. Switzerland leave with a point that feels closer to a defeat, and questions about how they failed to put the game to bed.
