Scotland defeats Haiti 1-0 in World Cup clash

Scotland got their tournament up and running with a win that mattered more than it dazzled. John McGinn settled it in the 28th minute, and a disciplined defensive effort did the rest against a lively Haiti.
Haiti, on the World Cup stage and unafraid of it, pushed for an equaliser through the second half but could not find a way past a Scotland back line that gave almost nothing away.
It is a precious three points for Scotland, who know how rare opening wins have been in their history. Haiti leave with nothing but plenty to be proud of.
