Mexico advances to Round of 32 with victory over South Korea
Mexico are through to the Round of 32 after a tight, hard-fought win over South Korea decided by a single second-half goal at a roaring Azteca.
The breakthrough came on 50 minutes through Luis Romo, enough to settle a cagey contest in which clear chances were scarce. South Korea pressed for a leveller but could not break down a disciplined Mexican rearguard.
It was far from vintage, but El Tri will not care — the win books their place in the knockouts and keeps a noisy home crowd dreaming.
