A home World Cup is a gift and a trap. The USA drew Paraguay, Australia and Türkiye in Group D. It is winnable, and that is the pressure: anything short of the knockouts will land badly in front of their own crowd.
They open in Los Angeles on June 12. Türkiye are the danger here, technical and hard to read, the kind of team that makes a host nation sweat on an off night.
