Germany thrash Curaçao 7-1 in World Cup opener

Germany needed a statement, and they made one. Felix Nmecha struck early, and though Curaçao stunned them with a quick equaliser, the floodgates soon opened in a 7-1 rout.
Livano Comenencia's 21st-minute leveller was as good as it got for the debutants. Nico Schlotterbeck restored the lead, Havertz made it 3-1 from the spot on the stroke of half-time, and Jamal Musiala struck within two minutes of the restart.
From there it was a procession. Nnamdi Brown, Deniz Undav and Havertz again all found the net, with Undav involved in three of the goals. Germany's forward line, so maligned in recent tournaments, looked transformed.
