Canada produced the statement result of the group stage, thrashing Qatar 6-0 behind a Jonathan David hat-trick to surge into the next round.

Cyle Larin set the tone on 16 minutes before David took over, scoring on 29 and again on the stroke of half-time. The rout rolled on after the break through Niko Saliba and a Qatar own goal, before David completed his treble in the 90th minute, set up by Saliba.

It was a landmark night for Canada, who have never looked more convincing. Qatar, by contrast, were overwhelmed from start to finish and head out with questions to answer.
